About ABC Celebrate Life
How we started
The After Breast Cancer (“ABC”) Celebrate Life! programme has been a dream of our founding Chairman, Dr Karmen Wong, a leading oncologist in Singapore and within the South East Asia region. As a medical oncologist who has walked with thousands of women through some of the darkest moments of their lives, she believes cancer survival is beyond just years to live but how well one should live.
The ABC programme was first launched in Singapore in May 2021 by our founding Chairman, together with her former patient, Ms Cally Koh, who is now a Cancer Support Ambassador and a team of advisors. Wendy Chua, a trained psychologist, is the lead facilitator for the programme.
Who we are
Our ABC programme is special. It is run entirely by breast cancer survivors, all of whom are past participants of the programme. There is a core team who is supported by a dedicated group of past participants who contribute as small group facilitators and in other ways. The small group facilitators undergo training and learn skills that will equip them to handle the programme curriculum and connect participants to the programme.
What we do
Our programme has the aim of guiding early stage (Stages 1-3) breast cancer survivors towards building resilience and living a purposeful life. The programme is conducted over 4 sessions, offering our ladies a safe-haven to share their thoughts and emotions freely, while learning lessons and skills to empower themselves to embrace life after breast cancer with courage.
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum for the programme is carefully curated and designed with input from doctors, psychologists and breast cancer survivors. It covers practical topics and interactive exercises with deep reflection to help breast cancer survivors process their emotions, fear and grief, reframe negative thoughts, improve their self-esteem, learn to create joy and establish habits to move forward in life. The curriculum is updated regularly, with feedback from our participants, team members and lead facilitator.
Who is it for
Our programme will suit breast cancer survivors who have early stage (1- 3)
breast cancer and who have/had completed chemotherapy within the last 3
years.
Our ABC programme is inclusive and we welcome participants of all ages, ethnicities and religious beliefs
